Barrhaven

Barrhaven is a vibrant, rapidly growing suburb situated 20 kilometers southwest of downtown Ottawa, Canada. Prior to the city's amalgamation with Ottawa in 2001, Barrhaven was part of the City of Nepean. Once a small community with fewer than 35,000 people, Barrhaven has grown significantly in the past years and is expected to surpass a population of 110,000 in the near future.

The community, also fondly referred to as "Far Haven" or "The Haven" is home to multiple public parks, playgrounds, and a wide variety of recreational facilities such as the Walter Baker Sports Centre which includes a library. Its unique geographical location, bounded to the north by the Greenbelt, and to the east by the Rideau River, adds to its charm and appeal.

Barrhaven has evolved from having only one grocery store and no theatre to now being a prime shopping destination with multiple shopping centers, lifestyle centers, and over 500 stores and services. Some notable shopping areas include the Barrhaven Mall, Cedarview Square, Chapman Mills Marketplace, and Woodroffe.

There are several significant development projects underway, including the creation of a downtown district featuring a new civic building, performing arts center, library, outdoor plaza, shops, and residential apartments. This is part of an initiative to transform Barrhaven into a vibrant, self-sustaining community, moving away from its past image as a "sleepy suburb”.

With its robust growth, strategic location, and myriad of amenities, Barrhaven continues to emerge as a desirable place to live, work, and play.
