Orleans is an affordable Ottawa suburb with a large French-speaking population. This friendly community is family friendly with a large number of schools and recreational activities. Its proximity to downtown also makes this location popular for those who work in the area.
For outdoor adventurers, you can enjoy the nature trails for biking and hiking as well as multiple parks and green spaces. A favourite spot for the areas residents is Petrie Island. The sandy beach, walking trails, kayak rentals and beach volleyball court makes Petrie Island the hub for families and friends to enjoy their time, especially during the summer!
You do not have to leave Orleans to do any shopping or dining. Big-box retailers like Walmart, Canadian Tire, Home Depot, Lowes, Best Buy and other large grocery chains are in the area. Place d’Orleans is a mall with over 175 shops and department stores! With a wide variety of restaurants, pubs, and coffee shops, you will not have a shortage of choice on the days you want to dine out and just take a break.
The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board and the Ottawa Catholic School Board operate public primary and secondary schools in the neighbourhood. There are no post-secondary options in the neighbourhood, so residents must travel closer to the city centre to access institutions like Algonquin College, Academy of Learning College, Herzing College, the University of Ottawa, and Carleton University. There is an extensive bus service to get around the city, but it is recommended to have a vehicle to make commuting a breeze. The O-Train East extension is currently under construction, and once it is completed, it will be much easier and faster to get around!
