New Wellness And Social Club Opening In Ottawa

Have you heard of Altea Active? It’s a modern, active-lifestyle company that’s going to be opening its fourth location in Canada in 2024. They’ve leased the former Canadian Tire store on Carling, a 129,000-square-foot spot, for their largest location. The company is planning on investing over $30 million in the Ottawa site to open a luxurious fitness club in Ottawa that promises to be a one-stop-shop for all things fitness and wellness. The club is set to feature a range of amenities, including fitness studios, strength and cardio areas, personal and small-group training facilities, and “luxury hospitality.”

According to Altea, the Ottawa club will offer a wide range of facilities, including nine multi-purpose group-fitness studios, a hot yoga studio, a theatre-style cycle studio, a boxing studio, an antigravity fitness studio, a fusion studio, a small-group training studio, a private reformer Pilates studio, a dedicated women’s-only studio with cardio, strength-training, and fitness areas, and a signature studio with HIIT, core, dance, boot camps, and other strength and cardio sessions.

The club will also feature an eight-court indoor pickleball club and a five-lane, 25-meter lap pool aquatic center. A recovery lounge will offer massage therapy, compression and vibration therapies, cold-plunge immersion, and a meditation lounge with its own Himalayan salt wall.

In addition to fitness facilities, the club will also offer co-working and social amenities, including Topgolf Swing Suites sports simulators, a 6,200-square-foot outdoor Sky Deck for member socials and private functions, a smoothie bar, Starbucks, and the Catalyst Kitchen & Cocktails relaxation area.

Altea Active Ottawa will also provide an Active Kid’s Club with a mini gym, arts and crafts, and quiet zones to support members with children from newborns to age 11.

RioCan, the company that owns the property where the club will be located, had originally planned to build up to 1,700 condominium units in a mixed-use development of six towers as high as 40 storeys. However, with the signing of Altea’s lease, which extends for up to 50 years and includes the full five-acre site and parking area, RioCan’s development proposal will be on hold indefinitely.

From state-of-the-art fitness facilities to co-working and social amenities, the upcoming fitness club is sure to be a hit with members. Plus, with an Active Kid’s Club, parents can rest assured that their children will be entertained and taken care of while they work out.
